In fact within a radius of 10 km, the Daffodils cover almost all the meadows. The scene is stunning, as beyond this area “the hummer flower” (from its name given in the past) rarefies.
Daffodils grow in so large quantities around Gerardmer that they gave the idea for a flower parade that became a real popular festival gathering thousands of persons in the town streets.
Everything began in April 1934 when a group of friends from Gerardmer motorbike association comes back from a ride with engines decorated with daffodils. These guys had the idea to do the same thing the following year but organizing a festival.
The first festival was organized on 22nd April 1935 and there already were thousands of spectators according to the newspapers of the time.
In April 1936 there was the first election of the Queen of Daffodils.
Since then the festival takes place every second year, on April !
Wow I’ve never even heard of this festival before. How did you come across this?

Daffodils
by William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed'and gazed'but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
