«Κάθε χρόνο,  οι  Αγώνες προσελκύουν  ολοένα και περισσότερo ενδιαφέρον τόσο από την ίδια την χώρα όσο από το εξωτερικό».

Στη σημερινή τελετή έναρξης οι τυχεροί θεατές που βρίσκονται εκεί μπορούν να δουν από κοντά εκτός από το διάθλο, τεθωρακισμένα οχήματα, τανκς και επιθετικά ελικόπτερα που βρίσκονται εκεί για επίδειξη. Ένα δίαθλο ιππασίας είναι επίσης προγραμματισμένο αναφέρει το RT.

Τokyo kindergarten by Tezuka Architects lets children run free on the roof

The oval-shaped roof deck of this playful Tokyo kindergarten allows children to play and run endless laps around it – a feature that has just won it the 2017 Moriyama RAIC International Prize.

Completed by Tezuka Architects 10 years ago, Fuji Kindergarten is located in the Tachikawa suburb of the city. It accommodates 600 children aged between two and six.

The school follows the Montessori Method, an educational approach where children are given freedom to range around the classroom and learn via discovery.

Rather than impose physical boundaries on the children, Tokyo-based architect Takaharu Tezuka designed the kindergarten as a continuous space that allows for unfettered learning and play.

He calls his concept the “nostalgic future”, where he looks at the way children would naturally choose to play without gadgets and screens, then facilitates it with future-forward designs.

I Love Lucy

Ball was revolutionary in more ways than one, especially when it came to transforming the entertainment industry for women. As she once said, “I am not funny… What I am is brave.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

This poignant and sensitive film is a portrait of Liu Ximei, a young Chinese woman who fights to defend the rights of people living with HIV in China, against all odds.

Millions of Chinese people were infected in the 1990s: across the country, the government encouraged poor farmers to donate blood in exchange for compensation under catastrophic health conditions. A hidden scandal… but for how long?

 

Liu Ximei was born in 1985 in Xincai County, Zhumadian City in Henan Province. Being born in violation of the one child policy, she was given up to be raised by relatives. In 1995, a ten year-old young lady, Ximei, was severely injured while harvesting wheat. Losing copious amounts of blood, she was given HIV contaminated blood and contracted AIDS while under treatment at a local hospital. According to 2011 official statistics, there are 850,000 AIDS sufferers in China, a majority of which contracted the illness as the result of an officially promoted plasma market. This film describes Liu Ximei’s life in 2013.

The Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death are a series of nineteen (twenty were originally constructed) intricately designed dollhouse-style dioramas created by Frances Glessner Lee (1878–1962), a pioneer in forensic science.

Glessner Lee used her inheritance to establish a department of legal medicine at Harvard Medical School in 1936, and donated the first of the Nutshell Studies in 1946 for use in lectures on the subject of crime scene investigation. In 1966, the department was dissolved, and the dioramas went to the Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S. where they are on permanent loan and still used for forensic seminars.

Tom Noddy’s Bubble Magic has been featured on televisions shows all over the world over the years. In some early performances Tom used cigarettes but that was long ago and he has developed a handheld fog generator whose fuel is food grade glycerin.

An episode of a BBC mathematics programme focused on the math of minimal forms and they asked if I could contribute. We set up in a small theater and exchanged ideas. They filmed the results and edited it beautifully into their programme. I’m very pleased with this one.

Malala Yousafzai ‘honoured’ by new portrait at UK’s National Portrait Gallery

In 2014, the activist and writer became the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Now she is being further honoured, with her portrait joining those of Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson Mandela in London’s famous gallery.

 

“I am honoured to have my portrait included in the National Portrait Gallery alongside some of Britain’s most influential writers, artists and leaders,” Ms Yousafzai said at the unveiling this weekend.

“I hope it will remind visitors that girls everywhere are fighting for change in their communities and countries — their stories must also be heard.”

The  or Kumari Devi comes from the Hindu faith however most of the “traditional” Kumari in Kathmandu are Newari (original settlers of the Kathmandu Valley). In Nepal the Kumari is a prepubescent girl selected by a council from the Newari people that acts as a manifestation of divine female energy.

Σαράντα εννέα μουσεία από 20 ευρωπαϊκές χώρες πήραν μέρος στον 5ο ευρωπαϊκό διαγωνισμό του Museums in Short, που αφορά την παραγωγή σύντομων βίντεο από και για μουσεία.

49 museums from 20 European countries participated at the 5th edition of the Museums in Short Award – European contest for short videos produced by/for/with museums.

Tο πρώτο βραβείο Museums in Short 2018 στην κατηγορία της προώθησης απέσπασε το βίντεο από το Διαχρονικό Μουσείο Λάρισας με τίτλο «Tracing the footsteps of human society» («Εντοπίζοντας τα ίχνη της ανθρώπινης κοινωνίας»).

The Larissa museum took first place (Museums in Short 2018 award) for its video “Tracing the Footsteps of Human Society”. The Kythera island’s museum was the audience favorite with “I Am the Lion of Kythera”. The award ceremony was held in the Slovenian town of Piran.

Εντυπωσιακή ήταν η έναρξη του 13^ου Φεστιβάλ Φωτός στο Βερολίνο, αφού με ένα κουμπί ξεκίνησε το δεκαπενθήμερο σόου.

Μία γιγάντια ανθρώπινη μορφή από φως έδωσε το σήμα «εκκίνησης» του σκηνικού, ενώ φωτίστηκε ο πύργος της Τηλεόρασης.

Φώτα, πυροτεχνήματα, φωτισμένες επιφάνειες κτηρίων και γέφυρες της γερμανικής πρωτεύουσας θα παραμείνουν φωτισμένα κατά τη διάρκεια το φεστιβάλ.

Φωτισμένα θα είναι και τα μνημεία του Βερολίνου, όπως η Πύλη του Βρανδεμβούργου και ο Καθεδρικός Ναός.

Την επιμέλεια του φεστιβάλ έχουν τόσο Γερμανοί, όσο και ξένοι καλλιτέχνες.

Το Φεστιβάλ των Φωτός θα ολοκληρωθεί στις 14 Οκτωβρίου.

“Like being in a dream”

Called Curiosity Cloud, Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler’s installation for Perrier-Jouët consists of 264 suspended blown-glass bulbs, each of which contains a hand-made model of an insect.

The installation lies dormant when there’s nobody around. But the bulbs light up and the insects inside start fluttering against the glass as soon as visitors get close.

Nobody is sure how or why it happened. But I’ve been in probably 100 caves above and below water and I’ve never seen anything like these, or I guess, has anywhere else. Some people think there might have been wind blowing in the cave when they were formed. But nobody knows.

A new first-of-its-kind underwater art museum in the Maldives features exhibits and sculptures at various levels, from the seabed through the intertidal waterline and up to the skyline, designed to be exposed and submerged to different degrees.

More than just an aesthetic endeavor, however, the project by environmental artist Jason Decaires Taylor is engineered to support the regrowth of endangered coral populations and other local marine wildlife. It’s the island’s first regeneration project, addressing a real need while also raising regional awareness.

It may be a “tale as old as time,” but “Beauty and the Beast” isn’t “true as it can be.” Like many fairy tales, the Disney classic you’re familiar with is really a new, child-friendly version of a historically dark tale. But this story has even darker roots.

For thousands of years, folktales from around the world have included descriptions of a bride with an animal groom. When French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve finally published the first written version of the story in 1740, it was based on a sad but true tale.

In this live spoken word performance, Sabrina Benaim uses poetry and expression in an emotional appeal to her mother to help her understand just how difficult depression is for her to overcome. As the conversation progresses, we learn that her mother has really addressed Sabrina’s depression either by minimizing or underestimating its grip on her daughter.

When I listened to this, I found the lyrics and level of emotion to be very raw, arresting and tragic at the same time. Sabrina has given a very eloquent voice to the silent millions who suffer from depression and anxiety every day.

The calendar was shown on July 8, 1851, when the British archaeologist Arthur Evans was born. Evans, who left life on July 11, 1941, having completed 90 years of his life, is famous in Greece and especially in Crete, as he was the head of the excavations that brought to light the antiquities in Knossos.

Ο Έβανς, ο οποίος έφυγε από τη ζωή στις 11 Ιουλίου του 1941, έχοντας συμπληρώσει 90 χρόνια ζωής, είναι διάσημος στην Ελλάδα και ειδικότερα στην Κρήτη, καθώς ήταν ο επικεφαλής των ανασκαφών που έφεραν στο φως τις αρχαιότητες στην Κνωσό.

The Scarlet Sails Festival 2018

Κόσμος παρακολουθεί τα πυροτεχνήματα που σκάνε στον ουρανό πάνω από τον ποταμό Νέβα κατά τη διάρκεια των εκδηλώσεων για τη γιορτή Scarlet Sails στην Αγία Πετρούπολη.

Η γιορτή σηματοδοτεί το τέλος της σχολικής χρονιάς και γιορτάζεται με εντυπωσιακά πυροτεχνήματα, μουσικές συναυλίας και σόου στο νερό.

 

The Scarlet Sails is the most massive and famous public event during the White Nights Festival. The tradition is highly popular for spectacular fireworks, numerous music concerts, and a massive water-show including battle among tens of boats full of pirates on the waters of Neva River.

The Scarlet Sails show celebrating the end of school year 2007 was attended by more than one million people. In 2010 public attendance grew up to 3 million, and entertainers were such stars as Cirque du Soleil, Mariinsky Ballet and Antonio Banderas among others.

Διεθνής Ημέρα Γιόγκα

Με τη γιόγκα λέει ηρεμεί ο άλλος… μάλλον δεν έχει δοκιμάσει τσίπουρο χαχαχα!!!

 

 

Η Διεθνής Ημέρα Γιόγκα καθιερώθηκε το 2015 και γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 21 Ιουνίου, ημερομηνία του θερινού ηλιοστασίου για το Βόρειο Ημισφαίριο.

Γιόγκα στα σανσκριτικά σημαίνει «ένωση», «σύνδεση», και είναι ένα πανάρχαιο φιλοσοφικό και πρακτικό σύστημα για την εσωτερική ενοποίηση του σώματος και του πνεύματος, του ανθρώπου και του σύμπαντος, του ανθρώπινου και του θεϊκού.

Οι «Κοσμοναύτες εσωτερικού διαστήματος- οἷα τὰ ἄνω, τοιαῦτα τὰ κάτω» είναι ο τίτλος της διεθνούς σπονδυλωτής εικαστικής έκθεσης, που παρουσιάζεται τον Ιούνιο του 2018 σε τρεις πόλεις: Αθήνα – Βρυξέλλες – Τόκυο, σε συνεργασία με το Εθνικό Αστεροσκοπείο Αθηνών, το Μουσείο Ηρακλειδών και το εργαστήριο Pearl του Τμήματος Τεχνών, Ήχου και Εικόνας του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου.

Η εκδήλωση θα πραγματοποιηθεί ταυτόχρονα με τρεις παράλληλες εκθέσεις/παραστάσεις στην Αθήνα, τις Βρυξέλλες και το Τόκυο, ως μέρος του ομώνυμου έργου «Κοσμοναύτες εσωτερικού διαστήματος», το οποίο βασίζεται σε σύλληψη και οργάνωση του εικαστικού Σπύρου Βερύκιου, τη θεωρητική επιμέλεια της σημειολόγου Ίλιας Κατσαρίδου και συντονισμό της αστροφυσικού Φιόρης-Αναστασίας Μεταλληνού.

Η  Βρετανική Pathe ανακοίνωσε την ανάρτηση όλου του αρχείου ειδησεογραφικών κλιπ της στο Youtube, με ελεύθερη πρόσβαση.

Περισσότερα από 85.000 ειδησεογραφικά κλιπ, που προβλήθηκαν στη Βρετανία στη διάρκεια 70 χρόνων τον 20ό αιώνα, έγιναν διαθέσιμα δωρεάν στο Internet.

Η βρετανική εταιρεία British Pathé, που είχε στην κατοχή της τα φιλμ με τα “Επίκαιρα” της εποχής, τα διέθεσε στο κοινό «για να διατηρήσει ζωντανή τη μνήμη των γεγονότων».

Planet or Plastic?

 

Το ιστορικό National Geographic έδωσε στη δημοσιότητα μια εντυπωσιακή, αλλά και σοκαριστική καμπάνια, με τον τίτλο «Planer or Plastic?» έχοντας ως σκοπό να ευαισθητοποιήσει τον «πολιτισμένο» κόσμο για τις συνέπειες της αλόγιστης χρήσης του πλαστικού.

Λίγο πολύ όλοι γνωρίζουμε, με αρκετές ενοχές ίσως, τη φθορά που προκαλεί το πλαστικό στο περιβάλλον, ακόμη και όταν το πετάμε στον ειδικό κάδο. Ο λόγος; Δεν ανακυκλώνεται τόσο εύκολα.
