KOKESHI Handcraft tradition of Tōhoku

At the MUDEC – Museo delle Culture of Milan, an exhibition presents for the first time in Italy a large collection of kokeshi, small doll-like wood sculptures that are considered the cultural emblem of the Tōhoku region, in the north-east of Japan.

As for the most wooden artistic sculptures, even the production of kokeshi begins with the choice and the cutting of the tree. The manufacturing carried out on the lathe by the master craftsman is completed with a painted decoration that differs according to the schools, the era, and the production area.

Liu Bolin – Visible/invisible

 

 

Mudec museum in Milan hosts the second photographic exhibition since its opening and has entrusted Liu Bolin with the task of recounting his art in person, with a performance, one month before the opening of the exhibition, expressly created for the MUDEC which has, as a background, the iconic pieces of its permanent collection, and especially with a exhibition “Visible Invisible”.

Emblematic places, social issues, known and secret cultural identities: Liu Bolin endorses the poetics of hiding to become thing among things, to show that all the places, all the objects, even the smallest ones, have a soul that characterizes them and in which one can blend, vanish, identify himself into the Whole: a philosophy born in the East, but which has conquered the entire world, especially the Western one.

Pysanka by itself is mostly chicken (goose) egg, painted on a specific technology with wax and natural or aniline dyes. Pysanka quickly blended into the Christian Easter ritual. The pictures on pysankas have the images of crosses, churches, bell towers, signs with Easter greetings.

The collection for the museum began to form more than a hundred years ago, when by the initiative of the local clergy a museum of folk art of Gutsulschina region appeared. Gutsulschina is a mountainous region located in the territory of present Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernovtsy, Zakarpattia oblasts, as well as surrounding Ukrainian villages of neighboring Romania.

Roman bullae were enigmatic objects of lead, sometimes covered in gold foil, if the family could afford it. A bulla was worn around the neck as a locket to protect against evil spirits and forces. Bullae were made of differing substances depending upon the wealth of the family.

 

 

 

Roman boys

Before the age of manhood, Roman boys wore a bulla, a neckchain and round pouch containing protective amulets (usually phallic symbols), and the bulla of an upper-class boy would be made of gold. Other materials included leather and cloth.

A freeborn Roman boy wore a bulla until he came of age as a Roman citizen. Before he put on his toga virilis (“toga of manhood”) he placed his boyhood bulla in the care

The Musea Sculpta, in the shadow of Bruges’s Saint-Salvator Cathedral, hopes to attract tourists with a modern take on the works of the Flemish masters.

Paintings are displayed at the newly opened “Musea Sculpta” in Bruges, Belgium.

40 artists came together over 60 days.

The 700 square-metre museum was designed by artist Alexander Deman.

They represent the birth of the depth technique in their paintings.

Bobblehead museum opens in Milwaukee

A new museum in Milwaukee may well hold the largest collection of bobbleheads anyone has ever seen, displaying more than 6,500 figures of athletes, mascots, celebrities, animals, cartoon characters, politicians and more.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum recently opened and was the brainchild of friends Phil Sklar and Brad Novak, who started collecting the figures 16 years ago.

The know-how related to the perfume of Grasse was inscribed on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of Humanity by a specialized committee of Unesco meeting in Port-Louis, capital of Mauritius.

 

Each year, the Unesco Committee meets to evaluate nominations and decide whether or not to include the intangible cultural practices and expressions of intangible heritage proposed by the States Parties to the 2003 Convention.

In November 28, a specialized committee of Unesco meeting in Port-Louis, capital of Mauritius, decided to register the know-how related to the perfume of Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes.

«O Φασιανός στη Γαλλία», (“Fassianos en France”)- Ιστορικό Αρχείο Μουσείο Ύδρας

Pieces of work of the famous Greek artist Alekos Fassianos are being displayed in the Historical Archives Museum of Hydra till the end of November. The exhibition includes twenty two paintings and twenty prints that belong to the private collection Zachariadis. These works of art have been displayed in places all over the world, like Paris and New York, and now they are presented for the first time in Greece.

Alekos Fassianos was born in Athens in 1935. He studied in the Athens School of Fine Arts and then went to Paris on a scholarship to continue his studies on lithography. His works have been displayed in the major museums and galleries of the world. Apart from a painter, Fassianos is also a writer, a poet and a stage-designer. His paintings are characterized by slight motion, bright colours and sensuality. He usually gets inspired from tales, figures of shadow theatre and everyday life.

Is It Fashion, or Is It Art? Roberto Capucci’s Sculpture Dresses

 

Capucci is one of the most important designers in post-WW2 Italy. He opened his first salon in 1950, when he was only 20 years old, and achieved international success very quickly. Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe were among the celebrities who wore his dresses. His Nine Dresses dress featured famously in a 1950s Cadillac ad, too.

As Nine Dresses shows, his works have been highly sculptural since the beginning. They’re highly three-dimensional even when no one is wearing them. Many are based on an unusual, box-shaped silhouette. His works are highly geometric, and they have also been compared to origami.

49 museums from 20 European countries participated at the 5th edition of the Museums in Short Award – European contest for short videos produced by/for/with museums.

Tο πρώτο βραβείο Museums in Short 2018 στην κατηγορία της προώθησης απέσπασε το βίντεο από το Διαχρονικό Μουσείο Λάρισας με τίτλο «Tracing the footsteps of human society» («Εντοπίζοντας τα ίχνη της ανθρώπινης κοινωνίας»).

The Larissa museum took first place (Museums in Short 2018 award) for its video “Tracing the Footsteps of Human Society”. The Kythera island’s museum was the audience favorite with “I Am the Lion of Kythera”. The award ceremony was held in the Slovenian town of Piran.

Primorsky oceanarium

Alice In Wonderland Syndrome

John Todd, in 1955 applied the term The Alice- in-Wonderland Syndrome (AIWS) to altered, bizarre perceptions of size and shapes of patients’ bodies and illusions of changes in forms, dimensions, and motions of objects that patients with migraine headache or epilepsy experienced.

He proposed these illusions or hallucinations resemble changes in size and limbs that the character Alice experienced in Lewis Carroll’s original Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

In 1945, at just 17 years old, Stanley Kubrick became a staff photographer for Look magazine. His humanist slice-of-life features celebrate his native New York City and already reveal a burgeoning creative genius.

With around 300 images, many previously unseen, as well as rare Look magazine tear sheets, this release coincides with a major show at the Museum of the City of New York and includes an introduction by noted photography critic Luc Sante.

Mildly annoyed at how long you have to wait for the final installment of Game of Thrones? This exhibition, rife with dragons, wyverns, sphinxes, unicorns and “sea swines,” is for you. It’s also for anyone with a passion for gender studies or a voracious appetite for examining power dynamics in imagery (i.e. there’s at least a little cultural relevance outside the George R.R. Martin fandom).

Coralarium: Ocean’s First Intertidal Art Museum Doubles as Marine Habitat

A new first-of-its-kind underwater art museum in the Maldives features exhibits and sculptures at various levels, from the seabed through the intertidal waterline and up to the skyline, designed to be exposed and submerged to different degrees.

More than just an aesthetic endeavor, however, the project by environmental artist Jason Decaires Taylor is engineered to support the regrowth of endangered coral populations and other local marine wildlife. It’s the island’s first regeneration project, addressing a real need while also raising regional awareness.

For more than seven million emigrants, who left from Bremerhaven between 1830-1974 on their journey to the New World, this is the moment of departure. For the visitors of the German Emigration Center this is the start of their travel through 300 years of German migration history.

Located on that very harbor where the emigrant ships departed you will now find the awarded theme museum in which vistors follow the personal path of an emigrant from the time of departure, to the conditions experienced during the crossing up until the arrival in the New World.

After emigrating to the New World visitors immigrate to Germany: In a reconstructed shopping mall of the year 1973, the year the Federal Republic of Germany enacted a recruitment Stopp for foreign workerk, visitors trace the footsteps of immigrants such as Huguenots, Guest Workers or Syrian civil war refugees.

Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, is sending its acclaimed art collection to Ireland in 2018.

The works will go to Dublin Castle and Skibbereen—diametric epicenters of the Great Famine (1845-52)— as well as Derry, for the exhibition Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger.

The museum’s collection, the only one of its kind in the world, constitutes an incomparable direct link to the past of almost 6.5 million Irish and 40 million Irish-American people.

“Delacroix 1798 – 1863” at the Louvre

 

The Musée du Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art have joined forces to organise a monographic exhibition dedicated to Delacroix. In its scale, it meets an unprecedented challenge: to elucidate Delacroix’s long, abundant and complex career. From the ashes of youthful brilliance that brought him fame at the Salons of the 1820s to religious and landscaped compositions, the exhibition gathers more than 180 of his works.

Delacroix 1798-1863 explores the tension of an artist who searched for originality while closely following the traditions of Flemish and Venetian artists of the 16th and 17th centuries. In concert with this retrospective, the Musée Delacroix is dedicating an exhibition to the recently restored paintings of Saint-Sulpice church.

Αύριο Δευτέρα 18 Ιουνίου το Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο διοργανώνει μια ιδιαίτερη εκδήλωση στην αίθουσα της περιοδικής έκθεσης «Αδριανός και Αθήνα. Συνομιλώντας με έναν ιδεατό κόσμο».

Δύο ξεχωριστοί καλλιτέχνες συμπράττουν με το κοινό για να διαβάσουν μαζί του και να ερμηνεύσουν με τη συνοδεία αρχαίας λύρας μέρη από το έργο «Μεταμορφώσεις» του Οβιδίου.

«Ρατσισμός: Μια εφεύρεση της ανθρώπινης φυλής» στο Γερμανικό Μουσείο Υγιεινής, στη Δρέσδη

 

H σκηνογραφία για την έκθεση “Ρατσισμός στο Deutsches Hygiene Museum της Δρέσδης, συνδέει την αρχιτεκτονική των δωματίων με το θέμα των δωματίων. Το υψηλής ποιότητας υλικό που χρησιμοποιείται δημιουργεί μια συγκεκριμένη ατμόσφαιρα σε κάθε δωμάτιο που επικοινωνεί αρμονικά με το εκθεμένο έργο τέχνης.

Στο πρώτο δωμάτιο, ο επισκέπτης καλωσορίζεται από μια μεγάλη ξύλινη εγκατάσταση κατασκευασμένη από αρθρωτά στοιχεία. Στο αχνό φως του δωματίου, το φυσικό χρώμα του ξύλου ανακτά τον χαρακτήρα του. Η δομή που διασχίζει τον επισκέπτη μέσα από το δωμάτιο λειτουργεί ως γέφυρα μεταξύ των διαφόρων εκτεθειμένων έργων τέχνης. Τα αρθρωτά κιβώτια δημιουργούν μια αυστηρή χωρική τάξη, που θυμίζει το σύστημα ταξινόμησης που χρησιμοποιείται στην ευρωπαϊκή νεωτεριστική επιστήμη.

Στη Φρίντα Κάλο, μια από τις πιο πρωτοποριακές ζωγράφους του 20ού αιώνα που θεωρείται ευρέως πρότυπο του στυλ χάρη στο εκλεκτικό γούστο και την αγάπη της για το χρώμα, τo εμπριμέ και τα κοσμήματα, εστιάζει το Victoria and Albert Museum στο Λονδίνο, το οποίο ετοιμάζει μια έκθεση με τα προσωπικά της αντικείμενα!

Οι γλαύκες της Αφροδίτης Λίτη στο Νομισματικό μουσείο

Στις 7 Ιουνίου  στο Νομισματικό Μουσείο Αθηνών, εγκαινιάστηκε η έκθεση:  «Οι Γλαύκες και η Αθηναϊκή Δημοκρατία. Από την Αρχαία Νομισματική στη Σύγχρονη Γλυπτική».

Αφορμή για την έκθεση, που πραγματοποιείται στην αίθουσα «Μάντω Οικονομίδου» του Ιλίου Μελάθρου σε συνεργασία με την καταξιωμένη γλύπτρια Αφροδίτη Λίτη, καθηγήτρια της ΑΣΚΤ, αποτελεί ο πανελλαδικής εμβέλειας εορτασμός των Πράσινων Πολιτιστικών Διαδρομών στον οποίο το Νομισματικό Μουσείο συμμετέχει δυναμικά τα έξι τελευταία χρόνια.

Η έκθεση εντάσσεται στις καινοτόμες δράσεις του Νομισματικού Μουσείου που ως στόχο έχουν τόσο το διαπολιτιστικό διάλογο, όσο και την προβολή στο ευρύ κοινό της πολιτιστικής μας κληρονομιάς, όπως αυτή καταγράφεται σε αρχαία τέχνεργα, αλλά και σύγχρονα έργα τέχνης.

«Η κεραμική ενώνει»

 

 

Με αφορμή το Ευρωπαϊκό έτος Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς 2018 παρουσιάζεται στο Κέντρο Μελέτης Νεώτερης Κεραμεικής – Ίδρυμα οικ. Γ. Ψαρόπουλου περιοδική έκθεση με θέμα «Η κεραμική ενώνει» σε συνεργασία με την Πρεσβεία της Ουγγαρίας και την Πρεσβεία της Λετονίας.

Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει την ενότητα  Κεραμική και συντεχνία με έργα κεραμικά και χαρακτικά του Ούγγρου καλλιτέχνη Janos Lipovics, καθώς και την ενότητα Ο δρόμος του Ηλίου με έργα πορσελάνης της Λετονής καλλιτέχνιδας KristīneNuķe–Panteļejeva.

Λαογραφικό και Γεωλογικό Μουσείο Ζαρού

 

Το Λαογραφικό και Γεωλογικό Μουσείο Ζαρού βρίσκεται δίπλα στο ναό του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Ζαρό και στεγάζεται σε ένα παραδοσιακό Κρητικό σπίτι. Το Μουσείο είναι δημιουργία του Παγκρήτιου Λαογραφικού Συλλόγου και λειτουργεί από το Νοέμβριο του 2014.

Η λαογραφική συλλογή αποτελείται από αντικείμενα της καθημερινής παραδοσιακής ζωής των προηγούμενων αιώνων. Ανάμεσά τους υπάρχουν και

Σουφάς σε Καρπάθικο σπίτι

.

Πυρήνας του Ολυμπίτικου σπιτιού είναι το ισόγειο μόνοσπιτο, που χωρίζεται σε δύο μέρη τον πάτο και τον σουφά. Ο σουφάς είναι ξύλινη υπερυψωμένη κατασκευή που χρησιμεύει για να κοιμάται η οικογένεια, ενώ οι κάτω χώροι χρησιμοποιούνται ως αποθήκες.

Ο σουφάς βρίσκεται συνήθως απέναντι από την είσοδο του σπιτιού και είναι εξαίρετα διακοσμημένο πλαίσιο που κάποτε ακουμπά στο στύλο, που στηρίζει την μεσαία δηλ. την δοκό της σκέπης. Ο στύλος και τα ξυλόγλυπτα κάγκελα του σουφά καλύπτονται με πολύχρωμα κεντητά.

Βασικό συμπλήρωμα του σπιτιού είναι η πάγκα, ξύλινος καναπές που χρησιμεύει για τη φύλαξη καρπών, φαγητών κ.α. Γύρω γύρω στους τοίχους υπάρχουν τα ράφια, στα οποία στολίζονται διακοσμητικά πιάτα.

Ο εξοπλισμός του σπιτιού συμπληρώνεται με το ξυλόγλυπτο και περίτεχνο εικονοστάσι στην ανατολική πλευρά του σπιτιού. Στο παλιό μονόσπιτο, που είχε τζάκι, προστέθηκε αργότερα ένας βοηθητικός χώρος, ο κέλλος που χρησίμευε για μαγειρείο. Πολλά σπίτια διέθεταν και φούρνο, που εξυπηρετούσε και τα γειτονικά νοικοκυριά.

DENVER, CO – August 06: Lest We Forget: The Mission statues at the Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum August 06, 2016. WWII Veteran pilot and sculptor Frederic Arnold, fulfilled a promise to honor his fallen comrades, memorializing 88,000 American Airmen lost in WWII with 12 life-size bronze statues of fighter pilots engaged in a mission briefing. Seven figures participating in the briefing are alive, five others in lighter colors represent the spirits of pilots killed on prior missions. Καθώς τα ονόματα διαβάστηκαν τραβήχτηκαν τα σεντόνια και οι φιγούρες που αποκαλύφθηκαν είχαν η καθεμιά μια ιστορία να παρουσιάσουν για τις ζωές των στρατιωτών του Β’ Παγκόσμιου Πολέμου, που δεν κατάφεραν να επιστρέψουν στα σπίτια τους.

Το γλυπτό αυτό είναι δουλειά επτά χρόνων και πάνω από 70 χρόνια αναμνήσεων των 12 πιλότων από τους  13 που υπηρέτησαν μαζί με τον Frederic Arnold !

Αυτός και Jim Hagenbach ήταν  οι μοναδικοί επιζώντες και για χρόνια πάλευαν με τους “δαίμονες” τους…

Έμειναν φίλοι για πάντα…..

Ένα τραυματικό σοκ από το θάνατο του αδελφού του τον έφερε αντιμέτωπο με όσα χρόνια κουβαλούσε στη ψυχή του…

Έγραψε τότε ένα βιβλίο εξιστορώντας όλη τη φρίκη που βίωσαν…

Όταν πέθαινε και ο φίλος  του είπε “ΜΗ ΞΕΧΑΣΕΙΣ” την υπόσχεση … να μη τους ξεχάσουμε ποτέ…..

ΚΑΙ ΤΗΝ ΤΗΡΗΣΕ !!!!!!!!!

As the names were read — Teenager, Squadron Leader, Good Lookin’, Lucky Strike, Eager Beaver, Frenchy, Montana, Lonesome, Tailend Charlie, Stud, Speed and Handsome — the grandchildren removed the sheets, revealing each figure carrying his own message and representing the lives of airmen who did not make it home.

The new sculpture is the result of seven years of work, and more than 70 years of memories inspired by the deaths of 12 fellow pilots who served in World War II with Arnold.

Westminster Abbey unveils gallery in area closed for 700 years

Ένας νέος πύργος από δρυ, πέτρα και γυαλί που κατασκευάζεται στο υπερώο του 13ου αιώνα του Αβαείου του Ουέστμινστερ, θα δίνει την ευκαιρία στους επισκέπτες να έχουν πρόσβαση στους θησαυρούς που υπάρχουν στον χώρο αυτό ο οποίος μετατρέπεται σε μουσείο.

Ο νέος πύργος θα είναι το πρώτο μεγάλο πρόσθετο στοιχείο στη γοτθικού ρυθμού εκκλησία τα τελευταία 270 και πλέον χρόνια. Θα έχει έναν ανελκυστήρα και ελικοειδή σκάλα που θα οδηγούν τους επισκέπτες στις νέες γκαλερί, 21 μέτρα πάνω από το δάπεδο του Αβαείου.

V&A Jewellery Collections

Όσοι με γνωρίζουν προσωπικά ξέρουν ότι δε φορώ κοσμήματα… όμως αυτή η συλλογή του Μουσείου Βικτορίας και Αλβέρτου στο Λονδίνο με εντυπωσίασε!!!!

The V&A has one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of jewellery in the world. Over 3,000 jewels tell the story of jewellery in Europe from ancient times to the present day.

Δικαίως το V&A είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα μουσεία του κόσμου. Πριν ακόμα κερδίσει το βραβείο έχει κερδίσει την αγάπη του κοινού.

Το «Μουσείο της Σελήνης» ταξιδεύει

Ο εικαστικός Luke Jerram, από το Μπρίστολ, ειδικεύεται στις εγκαταστάσεις. Η σελήνη, έργο του με διάμετρο επτά μέτρα, φωτίζεται από μέσα.

Αποτυπώνει με σκανδαλιστική λεπτομέρεια τις φωτογραφίες του δορυφόρου του πλανήτη από τη NASA, με κλίμακα 1:500.000, κάθε εκατοστό του γλυπτού αντιπροσωπεύει πέντε χιλιόμετρα της επιφάνειας του ουράνιου σώματος.

Μουσείο για Φαραώ δίπλα στις πυραμίδες

Υπό τη σκιά των πυραμίδων, η Αίγυπτος χτίζει ένα μουσείο εμβληματικό για να στεγάσει τα θαυμαστά αντικείμενα που έχουν βρεθεί στην περιοχή.

Το νέο μουσείο ονομάζεται GEM (Grand Egyptian Museum), όνομα που παραπέμπει σε «κόσμημα».

Περισσότεροι από 4.000 άνθρωποι εργάζονται καθημερινά κάτω από τον ήλιο της ερήμου για να χτίσουν αυτό το φαραωνικό κτίριο. Το ύψος του κτιρίου θα είναι χαμηλότερο από αυτό των πυραμίδων, έτσι ώστε να μην εμποδίζεται η θέα στις πυραμίδες.

Οι κλόουν κατοχυρώνουν το μακιγιάζ τους σε αυγά

 

Κάθε κλόουν έχει το δικό του μοναδικό μακιγιάζ -ή τουλάχιστον έτσι πρέπει- καθώς υπάρχει ένας άγραφος νόμος μεταξύ τους που αναφέρει ότι δεν πρέπει ο ένας να αντιγράφει το μακιγιάζ του άλλου.

Προκειμένου να κατοχυρωθούν τα συγκεκριμένα σχέδια του προσώπου ενός κλόουν, το Clowns International -η παλαιότερη κοινωνία κλόουν στον κόσμο- διατηρεί ένα μητρώο προσώπων. Αλλά αντί να διατηρεί φωτογραφίες ή σκίτσα του μακιγιάζ, οι λεπτομέρειες ζωγραφίζονται σε κεραμικά αυγά που διακοσμούνται με κολάρα, παπιγιόν, περούκες και μικροσκοπικά καπέλα από το πραγματικό κοστουμιού του κλόουν.
