The Egg – Andy Weir

The plot supposedly happened in an intervening period between death and rebirth. A man, who just died due to a road accident, conversed with his Maker. Their exchange is both revealing and challenging. This is the shortest story I have come across so far. In less than 1000 words, Andy Weir has provided us a pensive and relevant read, giving us a clearer view of our ethical obligations – accountability and respect for others.

The Neoclassical Trilogy in Athens

Η «νεοκλασική τριλογία» της Αθήνας, όπως συνήθως λέγεται, στην οδό Πανεπιστημίου, ταυτίζεται με την καρδιά της πνευματικής ζωής της πόλης. Αριστερά, η Εθνική Βιβλιοθήκη, στο κέντρο το Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, δεξιά η Ακαδημία Αθηνών. Πρόκειται για τρία επιβλητικά νεοκλασικά μέγαρα που κατασκευάστηκαν τον 19ο αιώνα.

Το Πανεπιστήμιο σχεδιάστηκε από τον Δανό αρχιτέκτονα Χριστιανό Χάνσεν, τα άλλα δύο κτίρια από τον αδελφό του, Θεόφιλο, και ολοκληρώθηκαν από τον Έρνστ Τσίλλερ. Και τα τρία έχουν πλούσιο διάκοσμο στο εσωτερικό τους, ενώ γύρω τους διαμορφώνονται κήποι με γλυπτά σπουδαίων Ελλήνων καλλιτεχνών, σχηματίζοντας ένα ξεχωριστό σύνολο στο κέντρο της πόλης.

Okay, we know we cheated, but once you’ve seen the Trilogy, you’ll understand why. Located in the centre of the city on Panepistimiou Street, these three neoclassical buildings, which include ancient Greek, Roman and Renaissance elements, are the University, the National Library of Greece and the Academy of Athens.
