The kaphenia (cafes) are an integral part of Greek culture, places for locals to talk to each other and share news. They first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, and some of them still exist.

Nespresso what else??? ….PENDANT coffee capsules

As everyone knows or should know, Nespresso capsules is a new waste stream that was just non-existent only some years ago. Now it is yet another source of waste that could be avoided (even if Georges try to sell you the much as he can).

In 2010 it was estimated that 10 billions of capsules were sold in the world (Nespresso and others caps). But these capsules gave some inspirations to crafters around the world and a lot of them transform them into lovely jewels.

Καλαπόδια – καλούπια πάνω στα οποία φτιάχνονται τα παπούτσια, οι πιο μεγάλοι ίσως να θυμάστε τους τσαγκάρηδες σκυμμένους πάνω από τα καλαπόδια να φτιάχνουν τα παπούτσια μας….

Και ύστερα ήρθε η πρόοδος… τα τσαγκαράδικα έκλεισαν… τα παπούτσια μας άρχισαν να φτιάχνονται σε εργοστάσια από πλαστικά ή ακόμα και ψηφιακά καλαπόδια… και τα ξύλινα καλαπόδια άρχισαν να παίρνουν τον δρόμο για το τζάκι και να γίνονται καυσόξυλα……

ΟΧΙ ΟΛΑ … εκτός από μένα που όλα τα δοκιμάζω και όλα τα βαριέμαι χαχαχα.. . υπάρχουν καλλιτέχνες που πραγματικά κάνουν αριστουργήματα δίνοντας νέα ζωή στα καλαπόδια…..

Some of the uninitiated toss it around relentlessly in an ungainly belief that peppering your language with “exotic” French expressions will make you sound smarter while others (ab)use it because haute couture collections are way fancier than ready-to-wear, so everything that’s at least a bit fancy in the eye of the beholder automatically becomes “couture”:

Παραμονή Χριστουγέννων. Εικόνες, μυρωδιές και γεύσεις κατακλύζουν τη μνήμη μας. Αλλοτινές εποχές τραγουδούν στην ψυχή μας.

Στιγμές των παιδικών μας χρόνων πασπαλισμένες με ζάχαρη. Το σπίτι, παστρικό και στολισμένο, η οικογένεια σε πλήρη δράση για τις ετοιμασίες, οι μυρωδιές από το ανθόνερο στους κουραμπιέδες και από τα κανελλογαρύφαλλα των μελομακάρονων, το σχολείο, με τα μπαμπάκια και τις χαλκομανίες στολισμένα στα παράθυρα, τα ποιήματα και τα τραγούδια των γιορτών…

Το τραγούδι του χειμώνα (ή των φωνηέντων)

Το τραγούδι του χειμώνα είναι ουσιαστικά των τραγούδι των φωνηέντων ή όπως είπε πιο εύστοχα ένα παιδί το τραγούδι με τις εύκολες φωνούλες. Το περιεχόμενο του αναφέρεται ασφαλώς στο χειμώνα αλλά η…ερμηνεία του παιχνιδίζει με τις φωνές και τον γραμματισμό.

Σε κάποια μεγάλη διάσκεψη του Ο.Η.Ε. για τον αφοπλισμό των κρατών συζητούσαν τις δυσκολίες που αντιμετωπίζει το μεγάλο αυτό πρόβλημα.

Τότε ο αντιπρόσωπος μιας μεγάλης χώρας διηγήθηκε έναν ωραίο μύθο της αλεπούς,για να επισημάνει ακριβώς αυτές τις μεγάλες δυσκολίες.

Κάποτε,είπε,αποφάσισαν τα ζώα να πάψουν να αλληλοτρώγονται και ώρισαν για το σκοπό αυτό μια πανζωική συνέλευση.Πρώτο μίλησε το λιοντάρι:

I am not a crafter – Ο “δενπιάνουνταχέρια μου”

 

Those who read me will know that from time to time I post some of my crafts !! I’m not a professional and I’m not selling anything!

I just try to make small constructions first for me and then for my friends and share with you the joy of creation!So some people tell me “I can not do this” … Incorrectly !!

Όσοι με διαβάζετε θα ξέρετε ότι κατά διαστήματα αναρτώ κάποιες από τις κατασκευές μου!! Δεν είμαι επαγγελματίας και δεν πουλάω τίποτε!

Απλά προσπαθώ να φτιάξω μικρές κατασκευές πρώτα για μένα και ύστερα για τους φίλους μου και μοιράζομαι μαζί σας τη χαρά της δημιουργίας!
Κάποιοι λοιπόν μου λένε “εμένα δεν πιάνουν τα χέρια μου” …

Λάθος όλοι μπορούν όπως πολύ εύστοχα γράφει μια φίλη για τους 10 τύπους crafter παρακάτω :

“He is a fully functional and competent person who uses his hands daily for all the necessary tasks such as eating, dressing, bathing, carrying things, etc. but once found near handicraft materials, his hands as an allergic reaction, stop catching.

They break down and freeze as soon as they see the handicraft materials or a finished craft and come back as soon as they move away from the allergen source.

Ο δεν πιάνουν τα χέρια μου crafter

Είναι ένας απόλυτα λειτουργικός και αρτιμελής άνθρωπος που χρησιμοποιεί τα χέρια του καθημερινά για όλες τις απαραίτητες εργασίες όπως να φάει, να ντυθεί, να κάνει μπάνιο, να κουβαλήσει πράγματα κ.λπ. αλλά μόλις βρεθεί κοντά σε υλικά χειροτεχνίας, τα χέρια του ως αλλεργική αντίδραση, σταματάνε να πιάνουν. Νεκρώνουν και παγώνουν μόλις δει τα υλικά χειροτεχνίας ή μια τελειωμένη χειροτεχνία και επανέρχονται μόλις απομακρυνθεί από την αλλεργιογόνο πηγή.

Old habit that does not stop waking up in the morning, wherever I am … even on holidays.

I took my coffee….  brushes … my paintings and after the morning walk I drove to the sea in Skopelos and started painting and decoupage …

That morning looked different from the others …

The sky was loading and the sun did not come out

Everything seemed like a great rain coming.

Παλιά συνήθεια που δεν κόβεται να ξυπνώ πολύ πρωί όπου κι αν είμαι… ακόμα και στις διακοπές..

Έπαιρνα τον καφέ μου…. τα πινέλα… τις μπογιές μου και μετά τον πρωϊνό περίπατο άραζα στη θάλασσα στη Σκόπελο και άρχιζα τη ζωγραφική…

Κείνο το πρωϊνό φαινόταν αλλιώτικο από τα άλλα…

Ο ουρανός φόρτωνε και ο ήλιος αργούσε να βγει….

Όλα έδειχναν πως θα ξεσπάσει μπόρα …

Storytells with starring witches, marbleing boys and throwing spells or curses.

Parents who abandon their children. Muddy dragons that steal the beauty of the girls. Terrible forests with wolves, vampires and elves … And yet. The children clearly show that they are enchanted by fairytales with violent heroes and scary plot.

Παραμύθια με πρωταγωνίστριες γριές μάγισσες, που μαρμαρώνουν τα αγόρια και ρίχνουν ξόρκια ή κατάρες.

Γονείς που εγκαταλείπουν τα παιδιά τους. Μοχθηροί δράκοι που κλέβουν την ομορφιά των κοριτσιών. Τρομακτικά δάση με λύκους, βρικόλακες και ξωτικά… Κι όμως. Τα παιδιά δείχνουν ξεκάθαρα, πως μαγεύονται από παραμύθια με βίαιους ήρωες και τρομακτική πλοκή.

Σε μια κοινωνία που εστιάζει τόσο πολύ στα υλικά υπάρχοντα, λίγα πράγματα εμπλουτίζουν τη ζωή μας περισσότερο από τις αναμνήσεις στοργής, τις ιστορίες που μοιραστήκαμε και τις ιδιαίτερες στιγμές με τις γιαγιάδες και τους παππούδες μας.

Μια γιαγιά ή ένας παππούς μπορεί να αφήσει πίσω του ένα σπίτι, ένα περιβόλι με μηλιές ή ακόμα και ένα σετ ασημικών εκατό χρονών. Ωστόσο τίποτα από τα παραπάνω δεν έχει σημασία στη γλώσσα της καρδιάς.

Jenny Bowker has been named in the 2018 Queen’s birthday honours for services to Australia-Middle East cultural relations thanks to her extraordinary works of traditional craft

 

[Through my quilts], I wanted people to look into the eyes of some of the people I knew – who were not well off – and see that they were gentle.”

A Bedouin guide in Egypt’s White Desert in Farafra features in one of Jenny Bowker’s quilts. “People always ask me how long these quilts take to make,” she tells us. “And what they’re really acknowledging and admiring is that I was willing to spend as much as two years on the work. There are things that you can do with fabric, which make it more meaningful, more evocative, more interesting than a painting.”

Whirling Dervishes

Dervish turning from the Mevlevi order of dervishes is a potent method for experiencing inner stillness and the opening of the heart. It was originally taught to us in 1963 by a Mevlevi Sheikh with the permission of the head of the order and it has been taught and practised at Colet House in West London on a regular basis since then.

The turning is a part of a ceremony known as a ‘Mukabele’ (meaning ‘coming face to face’) and it was originally developed by followers of the 13th century Persian mystic Jalalu’ddin Rumi. When we were taught it, we were asked to preserve it in its original form.

Με τον όρο δερβίσης ή ντερβίς  εννοείται κυριολεκτικά ο ζητιάνος, έτσι όπως τουλάχιστον απορρέει από τον περσικό όρο νταρβίς ή νταρβές, για τον θρησκευτικό επαίτη.

Από τεχνική άποψη ο όρος χρησιμοποιείται κυρίως για άτομα που δε συνδέονται με κάποιο ιδιαίτερο τάγμα και εκφράζουν την ποιότητα του περιπλανώμενου.

Στις μέρες μας η αποτυχία στιγματίζει τους ανθρώπους και συχνά εκλαμβάνεται ως αδυναμία. Από την οικογένεια και το σχολείο μέχρι τους χώρους εργασίας, η κοινωνία μάς σπρώχνει προς μια άσπιλη τελειότητα η οποία υποτίθεται μας καταξιώνει ως άτομα. Υπάρχει, όμως, στην πραγματικότητα αυτή η τελειότητα;

Άκουσε τα λόγια μου καλά. Σα να χύθηκε αθάνατο νερό η φωνή μου στις φλέβες της, άλλαξε αμέσως το τέρας κ’ έλαμψε παρθένα πάλι χιλιόμορφη. Σήκωσε το κρινάτο χέρι της από την κουπαστή, χαμογέλασε ροδόφυλλα σκορπώντας από τα χείλη της. Και άξαφνα στον ολοπόρφυρον αέρα χύθηκε τραγούδι πολεμικό, λες και εγύριζε τώρα ο Μακεδονικός στρατός από τις χώρες του Γάγγη και του Ευφράτη.
